Residential Programs
Oesterlen's Residential Treatment Programs serve youth aged 12-18 years old. They are open 24 hours per day, seven days a week, and include two staff secure intensive treatment cottages, one each for males and females, serving clients with severe emotional and behavioral problems, and two staff secure cottages serving males with sexual behavior problems. One sexual behavior problems cottage serves males functioning in the normal intellectual range, while the other sexual behavior problems cottage serves males functioning in the mild MR/DD intellectual range. Oesterlen's residential services programs are built upon a behavioral model with Christian Values where growth and progress comes from clients making positive choices. Clients may move to various steps within the continuum of services. Problems areas addressed include chronic runaway behavior, multiple unsuccessful treatment placements, and victimization from violence and abuse. Almost all youth referred have extensive academic and behavioral difficulties. Client treatment teams include a primary therapist, child care workers and supervisors, a teacher, a nurse, recreation and art therapy workers, a pastor or other spiritual advisor if requested. This team works in cooperation with a consulting psychiatrist. Client progress is evaluated weekly in cottage team meetings. At least quarterly, the treatment plan is reviewed in detail and updated by a multi-disciplinary team for each client, in consultation with referring agency professionals and the family of the client. THE OESTERLEN TRADITION Oesterlen Services for Youth began serving needy children and families in 1903. Today the agency is respected statewide for its emotional and behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and their families. Oesterlen provides residential services with on grounds open cottages and intensive treatment units, and community group homes. Oesterlen provides community service programs for juvenile sex offender and child abuse treatment, family counseling, living skills training, and consultation services to individuals and their families, agencies, schools, and other organizations. Oesterlen is prepared to help address the changing needs of children and adolescents statewide. We serve children and adolescents regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, or handicap (unless specific treatment programming is required).
